I like the teak on my V too Geekie. Never heard of Ipe though. Ive got some wood called Red Rock and its named right. Its hard as steel. Its hell ta cut, sand or shape but tough as hell. It was used in the paper mill refiners that chew up the wood pulp to a slurry so paper can be made of it.Ive got an armful but never used it for anything but knife handles.

I wish I had more teak on my 1991 Cuddy. The only teak it came with was the hatch rails and the swim platform (small one). I re-finished the hatch rails and platform with Sikkens Cetol and it really looks great. I am looking for a full stern teak swim platform which I will re-finish the same way. There's nothing like some well maintained teak to draw the compliments.

I love the lok of teak!! I think when kept good it adds to the Beauty of any boat!
That said I riped every piece out o my boat and replaced with Starboard for easy cleaning! I comercial fish in my boat 4 days a week, and by the end of the week my wife and everyone for 300 feet near my boat complains of the smell Except the flies, they were so thick last year I could not figure out what a black spot on the boat was? It was like 100 flies on each others back eatting something??Thats when the bleach comes out and every thing gets scrubed!!:toun:
