Hardwood coals RAP. Hickory or oak. Either will work equally as well. I've got a burn-down barrell. Or some people just say burn barrell, that I use to burn down the hardwood coals. Once you get her to 200 degrees she holds heat really well. I mean I'm able to drink like 3 beers before I have to shovel more hot coals ;)
I like to cook at about 180 - 200 degrees nice and s - l - o - w and steady! I promise to get pics of my custom burn down barrell! (55 gallon drum)
