Adding scuppers.

I figured it would be easier to just drill the hole,put some sealant around the thru hull, and just tighten up the fitting from the inside.
With the drain tube there are no threads or anything,it is just held in by the sealant, then the scupper is screwed to the outside of the hull.
Is the drain tube method the most prefered way to go?.
