population: around 4000 most noted for: scallops and the birthplace of florida. the first constitutional convention was held here in 1838 that led to florida becoming a state. it was a blissful state until after about 1948, then the widespread use of DDT and air-conditioning made it tolerable to the northern weekly visitors as a year round habitat. |
