I was onboard when a 250 Verado started making noise that we were sure was coming from the top end...as Spare says, apparently the noise coming from below water, traveled through the head, making it sound like the problem was up there...the Verado turned out to be parts gone bad in the lower.

Then make sure the stator on top of the motor ain't clickin' away w/something out of place...I had an Evinrude 150 coulda sworn was internal noise, turned out to be the stator...
