hard steering

my steering is very very hard when you turn to starboard I greased the shaft the cable is good and when disconected the motor turns good but very hard when hooked together
i want to put on the screw with the grease fitting has anyone used it is it a waiste of money i dont want to take the steering shaft out and clean and grease the tube because i know its going to be very hard to take out not to much room to slide it out
