buying a boat

Went back to look at 1992 v20 Still haven't met owner.Asked if me and my son could put boat in without him there. He said no problem. Hooked boat up took it to public dock put it in. It started rite up. After about 5 min I backed it away from ramp and put it in forward. There was no forward!!! I Need to find someone in the westport ct area to look at it.Everything else about boat is great.. Any help??? Would be willing to pay???
