Default Fluke Time

Well, the CT fluke season opened much later this season, June 15 3 weeks later than last year, and closes on Aug. 19th so I need to make the most of it. On top of that I have to deal with CT, NY and RI regulations where I fish in southeast CT. Monday was opening day in CT but all the good spots near me are in NY or RI water. Since RI didn't open until today (6/17) I headed out to Fishers Island just off the coast of CT but a part of NY and in NY water. The NY season is crazy....open in May but closed yesterday for 2 weeks meaning Monday was the only day I could fish NY until July.

We got out around 6:30 am and started fishing a bit before 7 am. Right away we got into lots of skates.....but, a couple of early keepers (21"+ in NY) had us thinking positive. Well after those two we managed a few shorts and a couple of dogfish but no more keepers for a while. Finally, at last, my buddy hooked on to something nice and pulled in a 25" fish just under 7 lbs. Fresh fish for dinner....21", 22", and 25".
