When you bid wait for the last 30 sec before putting a bid, I wait till the last 7 to 10 sec, but I have highspeed. Bid the max that you want to pay + 51 cents The bid will only advance to the next bid unless someone else has already bid something higer. I think this is called sniping? But I have won all my stuff this way ;) the 51 cents is key! Most people bid even numbers, I have won stuff cause of the 1 cent many times ;)
