Newbie to the board, seems that there is a lot of good information out here. I wonder if I can tap into your expertise and clear up some questions.
Just bought a 1979 20' Wellcraft cuddy with volvo 280 outdrive and a V8. I am trying to get some details on the pros and cons of the boat; from the little bit I could find it seems to be a decent hull, (no soft spots, original gelcoat with minor scuffing. All the parts appear to be in very good shape. The guy I got it from took good care of it. I've taken it out on the delta here in California, on the first trip, she ran fast, dry and smooth on a pretty windy nasty day. I am going to use it for sturgeon and striper trips, mainly the Delta and freshwater. It will be used by me and my boys, (4 and 12) for overnighters. I really doubt I will take it out in the salt as I am too big a wimp(!) and do not have the experience to go out there yet without taking some courses or running it with someone who knows what they are doing. Got a few buddies who say they know how to do it, but ehhh, for my money not that comfortable doing it. I'm trying to get information on maintenance, things to keep a close watch on, and where to get manuals for something this old. I've looked for a wellcraft owners forum on the web, but don't see anything for a boat of this age. Unless I hear otherwise, I plan on keeping her a long time (it just looks like a good, solid boat), and want to pamper her. Thank in advance, T- ;) |
