Sounds steep. Is that an installed price? Should be $550-$600 for a fabricated 60 gal aluminum tank, unless things have really gotten out of hand with pricing.
Someone here might tell you a part number for a replacement plastic tank. I was never able to find one with the fill/vent on the right end and low enough to fit. If you can find a correct or workable plastic tank, go with it.
