Default RUB RAIL

I WANT TO REPLCE THE RUB RAIL OF MY 1978 V-20.
ORIGINALLY IT HAS THE ALUMINUM V SHAPE, WHICH IS STILL AVAILABLE, BUT I LIKE THE FLEXIBLE WHITE VINYL W/STAINLESS INSERT.

I'VE ASKED AROUND AND EVERYBODY HAS A DIFF. OPINION. SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT THEY LOOK UGLY AFTER A WHILE, DIFFICULT TO INSTALL ETC.

ANY IDEAS? HAS ANYBODY RELACED THEM? WHAT KIND DID THEY USE?

I got one from the local Grady dealership. It came off a new boat! It seems that it was slightly dinged during delivery, and the new owner insisted that they replace it, so they sold me the "used" one at a substantial discount. ;) I had to look hard to even find the spot that it was bumped. Anyway, it's the very dark blue that GW uses, and we thought it looked really good with the paint we picked out.

I like the look of a new aluminum rail, but once it's dinged it's dinged, and there's nothing you can do about it. I do believe that the rubber does a better job protecting the boat. They are tough to install, from what I hear.

HEY,THANKS!!!! I'VE GOT TO LOOK IN THE GALLERY TO SEE HOW YOURS LOOK, THE ONE I THINK I'LL GO WITH IS THE FLEXIBLE VINYL WHITE W/STAINLESS INSERT, THEY LOOK AWESOME IN THE KNEW BOATS.VERY EXPENSIVE I THINK)

I HAVE A FRIEND THAT WORKS FOR ANGLER AND HE HAS INSTALLED THEM, HE PLACED THEM UNDER THE SUN LIGTH (IN FLORIDA YOU COULD IMAGINE!!!) AND HTEN OCCASIONALLY USES A HEAVY DUTY BLOWER.

I used one from Taco. Semi-rigid base that screws down (used 5200 also). Then a rubber insert works in and covers the screws. I opted for black and like the contrast. What a difference. It really accentuates (sp)the v20 swale.

WISE GUY: FINE LOOKING BOAT!!!! MINE IS EXACTLY LIKE YOURS BUT ORIGINAL GELCOAT. I'VE BEEN THINKING OF PAINTING IT BUT CASH IS NOWERE TO BE FOUND.

FOR THE MOMENT, I WILL REPLACE THE ROD BOXES, THE NEW TEMPRESS SEATS (i think) AND THE RUB RAIL. THE ONE I'M PLANING TO USE IS SIMILAR FRM TACO BUT IS FLEXIBLE, WHITE AND TAKES AN STAINLESS STEEL INSERT. DEPENDING ON THE COST, WORSE COMAS TO WORSE I'LL USE THE SAME ALUMINUM. IF IT LASTED 30 YEARS CAN'T BE THAT BAD.
