Default Hey Skool, off topic repair question

I've got a mariner 40 hp 4 cyl that the oil injection failed. I've been quoted $200 a hole for pistons, rings, & sleeves, but if it needs a crank, they are not available. Would you have a source on one? Thanks for any input.

They price there stuff 1/2 the retail + shipping, the last I knew of.

Hey Phat...I had a 40hp Mariner...it's been a while, you're standin' there lookin' at yours, but I don't remember it bein' a 4 cyl motor...sounds like lotta holes for that size motor...mine was a tiller/elec. start onna 16' big john boat...woulda been '89 or '90 model...sweet motor, NEVER a problem...had some electical parts on it by Mitsubishi, so I always figured that's who made it, too... ;D...

MJ, I checked out the site...WOW...if they ain't got it, you don't REALLY need it!!... ;) ;D...

Thanks for the info guys. After getting into the motor, th crank is ok. Gonna go back with rings & pistons, and boring. Should be ok. It goes on a river boat that my dad owns. Great motor It is the same block as the old 50 hp mercury. 4 cyl w twin carbs, runs sweet and smooth, just needs oil to keep running. It is 11 years old with only 100 hours. We took it out last week, got about half mile from the landing and motor quit, started it up again, and went another half mile down river and it quit again. Decided to head back, got almost back, quit again. Got back to landing, pop the cowling and found oil all in the base pan. Rebuilding a motor because of a 5 dollar split hose. Thanks again for the input..
