Marion is about 35 miles from my house. What year Grady? Very common problem for Grady models in the '80's that had the motorwell cutout in the transom. I looked at so many that either needed the work done or had half-assed repairs done to the transoms. I finally found a full transom bracketed model. Man, I wish I'd kept that boat. Then again, I've owned lots of other boats I wished I had never sold. Oh well. :'(

Yeah, it does look good. Generally, the full transom models as with I/O and bracketed models didn't have much problem with the transoms.

I had the 22' Seafarer model, which is basically the same thing as that 24' Offshore. Same layout, beam, everything. Just 2' shorter. New trailer for that will run you close to $4000.00 don't forget. You'd want about a 7200#GVWR Tandem with brakes. Something else to factor into the total investment. That plus you estimated $9500.00 for a 1982 that may or may not have structural problems suddenly may not look as appealing. The other thing to consider is that boat here in the Northeast will bring more $$ than in Florida or even other areas. When I listed mine for sale, I got calls from prospective buyers from as far south as NC saying that it was prioced a bit high for their area. I had to remind them that I wasn't selling it in their geographicaql area. ???

BTW, the bulkhead below the helm station on that boat is without question, rotted. Another common problem. Mine was an '89 and it had rotted already. I replaced mine right after buying it. Another problem they had is the deck plate inspection ports weren't epoxied at the factory when the made the cutout. Many caused "spongey" decks in the areas surrounding them.

Not trying to burst your bubble. Just trying to give you a heads up on a few things. Grady's are very nice boats. Just that the older they are, the more problematic they become. But, like everything, you'll find good and bad.

Grady White, w/the reputation for quality they have and they don't even protect raw deck edges they cut for inspection plates...if they don't, does ANYBODY ??? ::)...

Well, they do now, but back a few years ago they certainly cut a few corners. Still a nice boat. They do put a lot more into the hull layup than a lot of other companies do.

wow! thats probably more information than i needed, but it helped me make an important decision... gotta keep on looking. and yes, you would think that the "benchmark" in fishing boats would build a little more thought into these things... the resale on these things is rediculous. love the v 20 but god how i wish they built them in 22-24 foot long. wouldnt be able to find a better boat then.
