17 McKee or 17 Henry-O
thinking about looking at a 17 foot Henry-O have already looked at a 17 McKee both are side consoles anybody have experience with them wondering what the differences are between the two. they will be used in tidel creeks and rivers. Henry is powered by Suzuki 115, McKee by 135 Yamaha

I've had two Mckee's. decent boats but heavy and not that well designed, the Henry O was Henry Mckee. Similar issues as the Mckee. Now hat they are geting some age on them, we've been seeing some structural issues with Henry O's. Deck separating from the stringers, internal wood rot. I haven't seen any of these issues with a McKee. I'm assuming the Suzuki is a two stroke, I'd rather have the Yamaha, especially in Salt water

Thanxs for the info we liked our 14 foot McKee but it got water logged then last winter the knees and transom broke up when we had the freeze. the 14 footer had gotten to small for our needs anyway.

I've seen some deals on 17 Montauk whalers this year, seem that if it doesn't have a 4 stroke on it, no body wants it anymore. I sold my 16 McKee last spring for $3500 in turn key(but ugly) condition. Since then I've seen a couple 17 whalers for similar pricing. All things considered, the whaler is a better boat. My 16 McKee was a good boat, but in the wrong chop it would knock your fillings out. I haven't ridden in a 17 Mckee. If you run across a 17 Whaler Outrage, they are great boats.

I've had 4 McKees, 3 of them projects, 2 14ft and 2 17 ft, be careful of any water intrusion because they will waterlog more than you will believe. One 14 it took 5 grown men, two of them sumo wrestler size, to load onto my trailer while my wife cranked the winch. One 17 I gave to a guy and we couldn't get it off the trailer. We had tow line wrapped completely around the hull with me pulling forward with my 5.7 sierra and him pulling backwards with a 4.3 in 4x4 spinning all four tires before it barely slid off. I like the hulls on the Henry Os. An old man told me once that after a nuclear war all the would be left is radiation, cockroaches, and old McKee Craft hulls.

I thought my 14 was waterlogged, I cut two 4 inch holes in the floor. No water in the foam, it was just that damn heavy. Lots of glass. BTW, Whalers run so good because they are light, the barely have enough glass to hold them together, the foam makes them solid. I run screws into the decks all the time, they barely have enough glass to hold a screw
