so I've had this knife for 20 or so years and always had it with me. never lost it. never misplaced it. about 2 weeks ago it simply vanished. gone.

![]() so I went to Walmart today and bought a temporary replacement cheapo piece of crap. what do you guys have on your belt or clipped to your pocket? this trusty knife holds a decent edge. I guess it's about 4.5 closed with a 4 inch blade. cost me around 30 bucks, 20 plus years ago. suggestions? stories? help?

Always on my belt when I go out in the woods, http://www.cabelas.com/product/Buck-...clsrc=aw.dsbut too bulky for everyday wearing/use. I keep a small, slim pocket knife in my back pocket all the time.

I don't like serrated edges. They tear rather than cut. A properly sharpened knife doesn't need a serrated edge.

Benchmade Gryptialian, I'm on my third one. First one I found in a truck I bought and loved it, dont have a clue what happened to it, second one I ordered on ine, used it for 4 years, belt clip got bent too far out, snagged something and it was gone. I'm one the replacement now for just over a year. Note to self, tighten the belt clip, at $90 a shot, I dont need to loose another one

![]() my pop had this on his belt most of the time and i'm 90% sure we didn't lose it in the storm. I think it may be in the condo in delray beach. I sure hope so. I don't know if I would wear it all the time but i'd sure like to have it because it was his.

For every day use, I prefer a knife with a clip that rides inside my jeans (or other) pocket. I don't trust the type of lock that's on the cheap one you bought - a liner lock is MUCH less likely to fold up on you and cut a finger in hard use.

I'm with Destroyer on serrated blades. If you're needing to absolutely get through a seat belt or rope in one cut, serrated is a good choice but for general all around cutting, a non-serrated blade is much more useful. If you don't like to sharpen knives or aren't any good at it, serrated may be an OK choice. If you have or get a good sharpening stone (I prefer DMT diamond sharpeners) and learn how to use it, you can keep your knife tuned up easily. I'm with Spare - you will probably not find a better knife than a Benchmade. They make them here in Portland Oregon and if it ever gets to where you can't get a good edge on it, send it in and they'll sharpen it for you. I only carry my Benchmade when I think I might need it defensively but it's not a style that's good for every day use. My everyday knife is a CRKT (Columbia River Knife & Tool). It's definitely not a Benchmade but it's not a cheap knife and is adequate for general use - just needs sharpening more often. I hope some of this is helpful.
