as far as the Tahoe, i'm not going full size again. i'm gonna mount a rod rack and a couple kayak racks up top. maybe a bike rack out back. I see a lot of these trailblazers came with a straight six. whadda y'all think about that? these trucks are really cheap. get an 05 or 06 for like 3K. are they reliable? will they tow? don't really give a sh!t that much about mileage as when I commute I drive like 2.4 miles a week. other driving will be a weekend home depot run or pulling the trailer to one of our boat ramps, both within 3 miles. if I snatch one up with 150K on it, can I expect another 50 to 75K?

Cool

The Chevy straight 6 was a pretty reliable engine. Has more torque than a V6.
I have a friend that has a 05 Trailblazer and she loves it. Has 135K on it. I've never had one so I can't say from personal experience if they are good or bad. I think it's like any other vehicle, if it's been properly maintained it should last for a long time.

Inlaws had an s10 blazer, dont get one with the vortec 4.3, pain in the ***, the tbi 4.3 would be a lot better in my experience. The wifey currently drives an 04 gmc envoy. It runs and drives smooth, has blind spots, gets decent mileage, cup holders and console suck, love how gm with all their money and power can screw up something as simple as a cup holder. I wouldnt tow with it. Been in the market for a clean 3rd generation 4runner to get for her. That way our redneck white trash asses wont be as obvious.

In all seriousness, that straight 6 is suposed to be a good engine, its a clean sheet design that came out specifically for those series of SUV and small truck, how ever, they offer the 5.3 in the trailer blazer, and the 6.2 in the trailblazer SS( 4 door Camaro). Id much rather have the V8. from the people I know that have them, the drive train has been great, its the rest of the truck that falls apart. Id still love to have an SS,

Theres nothing wrong with the 4.3l vortec imo. Only real downfall was GM using crappy injector designs in them prior to around 03 or so I believe. Which are you leaning towards, a blazer, or a trailblazer as they are 2 completely different vehicles. I have nothing against the mid size blazers. They were old school basic design, built more like a truck, and much cheaper/easier to maintain. The trailblazer was the replacement. The 4.2l straight 6 is said to be a decent engine, but I know later models had variable valve timing, and I believe the 1st gen engines had cam phaser issues. The trailblazer is a much newer/modern design with alot more electronic control, and there is countless people who had lemon lawed them for problems with the electrical system(GM tried out a new design with them early on, needless to say they didn't expand it). Also of note the 4x4 models have the front diff actually mounted into the oil pan. They're very tight to work on as well. Everybody I know who has/had one has had electrical gremlins with them, and most have gotten rid of them because of it. I'm a diehard GM man, but the trailblazer/envoy platform is 1 I would avoid.
