Total non-event for Northern New Jersey. Not a drop of rain. I think the Eastern tip of Long Island got a little rain, but it went out to sea before it reached us and we were spared any inconvenience. (But the ocean is running 7-10' waves and impossible for our boats to go out). Will need a few days for it to settle before that's possible. Oh well, time to dig out the metal detectors and go hunting along the freshly upturned beaches. (Best time to hunt is after a storm).

Yeah Pipe, most of the downed trees around here have been water oaks too. They will look healthy, but be rotted out inside and break off at the ground. Really they're almost worse than having pine trees. We were out of power a little over 40 hours. Crews still fixing lines. Huge piles of debris along the roads on the backside (south and eastern sides) of Wilmington Island. Tsubaki good luck with y'alls insurance people.

Thanks bradford, the agent came by and accessed it today.
After the deductible, the check won't cover the materials cost. Daddy said "well, I ain't had a good ****ing in awhile, guess I was overdue".

I wasn't going to grill him but the best I could understand was there is a $20,000 maximum coverage for unattached structures. And a $4,000 deductible for hurricane damage.
The agent sat down with him, showed him the places in the policy. He also went as far to show him the old policy he had last said the same thing. The agent also said that no company wants to cover anything along the coast. I think he got check for $1400, the agent said "at least this will get you started". Oh, he did throw in $100 for the three day tree removal that we done. He has 288 square feet of roof that needs replacing. This includes all the shingles, all the plywood, all the rafters and beams. Not to mention replacing 190 square feet of facial on the rear wall. On the right side of the picture every rafter is busted and every piece of plywood has punctures as does the rear facial.

Damn Tsubaki, that sucks. I guess about the only thing you can be happy about is that it wasn't his house.
We had a similar hit with Hurricane Irene. Took off the rear corner of our house. But our insurance covered $2500 to remove the tree off the house, and $1000 for tree disposal. Then $4000 to repair the roof with a $500 deductible left us with $7000 total to fix the damage. Just about covered it. I think we needed a few extra hundred to actually pay for everything.

Sorry to see that, Tsubaki.
BTW, my "named storm deductible" is $16,000. |
