Default Need some insight!

So I'm thinking about taking the transom bracket and the motor off of this and using it to replace my seadrive on my V20. Is it worth the investment or should I spend my money elsewhere?

you cold sell the trailer pretty quick, don't know what condition the Johnrude is in, but if you could use the engine and bracket, it wouldn't be bad. Check into what it takes to dispose of a boat before going thru with it. In SC, you have to have hte title and show taxes paid up before taking it to the landfill.

also, v20 transom has a curve to it, if that one is for a flat transom, you will need some shims. not a big deal, just something to be aware of

Talking

A boat that size you can dump at the Waste Management landfill off Little Neck Rd. for about 75-90 bucks, depending on weight.

They're closed on the weekends.

You have to remove the fuel tank and batteries. Another fun project.

Throw it back on craigslist for free and talk to everyone and their cousin from Nahunta, Baxley, Reidsville, Lyons, etc. None of them will have a truck much less a trailer to come get it, so they will try to convince you to deliver it to them for 20 dollars in gas money. On the way there you will lose a bearing/tire/spring/the boat will fall off the trailer, and you will wish you just paid the 90 bucks to dump it and chiseled the fuel tank out.

That's actually the way Temoc is, he'll come out getting a new engine and bracket and making money on the whole deal.

He's a lot more patient in his craigslist dealings than I am.

Default Soooooo. . . . I bought it

Ok. So now the Carver sits in my driveway. (I'll post more pics of it later) Was told the engine runs. Did compression test 80 on the three left cylinders and 85 on the three right ones. When I looked at the engine it seems to be missing something from the top of it. Any idea what is missing? Cuz I'm new to this and have no idea.

So I did research and I believe it's just the power pack missing. It's on order and will be installed shortly. Is there anything else I might be missing? Also, anybody know what the compression should be? Here are some more pictures of the engine

Compression on that engine should be 85-90. When doing a compression test, the throttle MUST be wide open and you NEED a GOOD HOT battery. They have fairly low cranking compression because they have an idle relief in them that vents compression out the exhaust. At higher RPM the relief doesn't let much out, but at low RPM's it lets alot out. It makes them use a bit more idle fuel, and smoke a bit more, but it lets them idle so much smoother. If you block the reliefs, compression should be around 125-135 on it cranking compression. Be ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN the carbs are clean in it as a SLIGHT lean out WILL burn a cylinder up. And to be safe, do a decarb on it as the #1 killer of these engines is stuck rings from hardened carbon buildup.
