New V20
Hello All!
Long time boat owner but new to the V20. Started out with rowboat and with selling my family to go in on larger boats, we experienced: 19' Anacapri, 18' Aquasport CC, 22' Shamrock Predator, 29' Phoenix SFX and now a 81 V20 Cuddy I/O After two months of work with the following tasks complete: new bellows, upgrade to petronix ignition, new started, rebuild carb, new battery, checked and replaced faulty wiring, removed 60 gal gas tank and foam and replaced with a good 30 gallon for temporary use this year. My boat sat for eleven years! Launched yesterday in the Delaware Rive and it ran perfect! This year I am trying to get some fishing and cruising in and over the winter will be more extensive work such as replace floor, etc...

Hi Dan4836 Welcome aboard!! Seems you're near a bunch of us. Interesting post... I didn't know you could sell your family for a new boat. How much did you get for them?
 Glad you've taken the time to restore that V. Way too many of them have gone to the boneyard when all they really needed was some tlc. We love boat porn on this site, so any pics you'd care to share are more than welcome.

Thanks guys....
I launched yesterday by the Tacony bridge on the Pa side. I am planning on boating mostly in Belmar, NJ and the Northern Chesapeake Bay. Would like to do Philly to Baltimore trip. The plan - use spring and fall for fishing and summer for cruising. In the past, I only fished but after doing two trips to the Chesapeake, I am changing that. I can now get my wife to buy-in and get extra funds for the restoration! I have two boys, 10 and 12 and I think the V will do very well for all of us. During yesterdays trip, I can't believe how solid this boat felt. Felt much bigger than 20'. I only had my own wake to jump across and did not feel it. I will be putting on Lenco tabs as I know boats in this size need to keep the bow down.

Ran for three hours today
I ran for three hours today at 20 knots and the boat ran great. Logging a temp of about 185. I opened her up but only get 3,500 RPM's and the temp slowly moved past 200. I know these engines are know to heat up quick. I only have the 3" heat exchanger and I know I probably have the wrong size prop as I should be able to get at least 4,300 RPM's.
Will a prop that is too big cause this increase in temp? Other than that, everything ran great. I can't read any numbers on the prop...(Mercruiser 470)

Welcome to the sight Dan.
Glad to hear you are enjoying your boat. We have similar boats as mine is a '78 w/470 and recently splashed as well and still working out a few bugs. As far as temps I have not saw more than 170 at wot. with a 4" exchanger and new water pump. Still playing with props 21p=3800-17p=4600 now have a 19p to try. Keep us posted and good luck!!!
