hi guys just need your opinion on my intake manifold I am debating whether to remove the water going into the manifold .I do know cars used that system to heat the manifold to help running in cold weather can you think of another reason why it has water heating as most other inboards I have seen don't have it. could it be a quick fix merc done because of fuel sitting on the bottom of the manifold and not vaporizing

Is this a one piece intake and exhaust manifold? If so make sure you need water to keep it cool, not warm

the water went to the manifold to cool the oil cooler that was on the bottom side(4bbl intake), if you are not running that cooler, you'll be OK without the intake being part of the system. Supposedly, you get 1 % power per 10 degrees cooler(F) the intake charge is. It may be a bit cold natured, but you'll probably be OK

it will run the temp of the cooling system so it will be hot I was under the belief it was for cold starts to help carb engines run better in cold climates to reduce rough idle and poor cold performance

you need to keep the EXHAUST cool.. IE 200 degrees instead of 900
if it's just in the intake as ferm is pointing out then it may not be needed but you HAVE to have wet exhaust or your bellows and shutters will burn and your manifold will be WAY too hot |

yes the intake side I was talking about I wanted to stop hot water from the cooling system going in the intake I am aware that the cooler the intake charge the better the performance . I need to look at the system when I get it back together. so what your saying is the the engine coolant cools the engine oil

if the intake manifold was an original for a four barrel carburetor (Quadrajet) it would have the oil cooler, if it was for a two barrel carburetor(Mercarb) it will not have one. Post up a picture of the intake
