| painting plastic? Ideas please.

I couldnt pass up a great deal on 2 utility hatches for the floor of my boat. One is gonna be used to acess my bilge pumps and bilge area and one is gonna go under my console to be able to get to wiring and chasing future stuff. the only negative is they are light grey witch does not go with my paint scheme at all. What do you think about rolling with my durabak non- skid bedliner product that im doing my floor with? they say that stuff will stick to anything!!!!!!! maybe a light skuff then roll it to match my floor? all ideas are welcome.

I have had good luck with the Krylon plastic specific paints. I repainted my access hatches and the paint adhered great and is durable. If you non-skid I would guess the method you mentioned would work.

before you paint the plastic, wipe it down good with cheap lacquer thinner, till it gets sticky, then let it flash off so the thinner wont affect the paint, you can also use a heat lamp or heat gun to increase adhesion. Found out about the thinner trick when a plastic paint job didn't go well, we cleaned it up with thinner, then re shot it, the second time around, it stuck good. check out West system's web site, it has some good tips on dealing with plastic

When i painted the 250 Sportsman floor with durabak, i also painted all the access covers (the plastic snap in type) it stuck for a while but after dragging stuff across them it began peeling and never stopped peeling till it was all gone off the covers.
