Default Last weekend report and funny mishaps

Well I had the best time this weekend hunting with Lexie again. She's a ton of fun and we kept each other entertained pretty good.
First hunt thursday PM was slow and bad weather.
I got this guy Friday right at daybreak. Was a hard shot due to lighting and Lex couldnt make it. She was glad in the end I made the sot and we got him.

Having her put out some tinks.

Seen 4 or 5 deer Friday evening including two rack bucks sparing. They were once again in the fading light and she couldnt make the shot so we slipped out in hopes of meeting them again.

Saturday morning hunt was short as she cold cold. We went back to camp for a warmup and to get a bite. After that we decided to go down to the river and try and retrieve a blind and chair that was on a ridge between two flooded bottoms. I wanted to get it out with the rising water so we headed down to attempt to cross it on the four wheeler.
Prior to this I went on down to an axcess that walked down to the flooded Alabama river so she could take a look. The water was still 10-15' below the bank we were on. I walked down to a flat area on the bank while she stayed back a hair. Just as I was pointing around and explaining to her this would be a cooll place for us to checkout in the spring for some fishing I heard and felt something shift underneath my feet.
I then realized in a split second what was happening so I turned and jumped as far as I could grabbing about a 3" oak tree as the bank fell out from under me.
I explained what happened and the bank was undercut, she then realized that would have been a COLD, long drop and was glad I knew what to do to avoid it after she gave me a few of these:

We then proceeded on back up to our ground blind/flooded bottom location.

Upon arrival I dropped her behind me and had her stand on the hill edge while I proceeded across. I still remember her asking before I took off how deep I though it was and I responded "oh only about 2 feet babe."

Well it wasnt two feet (more like four) and about 40 yards into my journey I now stood on the seat of a flooded out ATV with a pretty giggly 9YO behind me pointing.

I tried to no avail at restarting and made the call to Kendall (he was about 30 minutes away) to bring the trailer for me.

Then I done what any rational man would do and stripped down to my underoos, then slipped off the seat into the freezing briar infested swamp. (as you may imagine this later came back to haunt me)
By the time Kendall arrived I had gotten the thing to dry ground along with ice on my giblets and torn up feet from briars. After a good laugh and more finger pointing by the both of them he and I started pushing it up the hill to the truck.

It is at this time I should probably explain what we call a "Mock Orange" tree up there and what they look like is this:

And there are plenty of them.

As we are pushing (and im still pretty much naked) I wasnt looking and ran right down the side of one. As a yelp came out of my mouth it hit Kendall what just hapened and he almost passed out from laughing so hard and had to take a break. Also in a hysterical laugh was my dear, sweet little girl that I have loved and raised since birth. Little girls are MEAN. LOL

Here is the upper part of the afflicted leg.

Many times hunting up there prior to this weekend the jovial phrase "hey you know what would suck? runing through one of them trees naked"

I was used plenty after this too.

The weekend finished out without much more drama and little deer seen. There was plenty of finger pulling and chasing a little girl around with farts but thankfully no more bloodshed. We had a blast though and Ill never forget it.

Ill also never forget the comment on the 2 hour ride home from the back seat...

"Daddy, you killed a big buck, almost fell into the river, waded naked across freezing water and ran through a mock orange nude. Ill NEVER forget this weekend!"

"Mission accomplished then sweetie"

I think that "ice on your giblets" is way more painful than a run through the mock orange bushes!!

It was pretty painful on both accounts!

Updated THIS is the actual tree..its a trifoliate orange...couldnt remember the real name.

And one more humiliating shot my buddy took I just got from him.

Oh and Willy, its Clarke County...near Bama river. About 2 hours north of me in Mobile...West, slighly SW of Montgomery.
