Default How do Yall like my new boat?

Made an offer that was accepted, going to do paperwork and pick it up tomorrow.

Its a 1974 Dixie with a 25 Evinrude and foot controlled Minn Kota on the front. It looks like it has been kept covered since it was new....gonna see if it will improve my bass fishin luck.

Nice find, that's what happened to me, my grumman was garage kept and had not been used for the last 5 years before I bought it.
Good luck with the boat and fishing.

It has some pretty cool features, the middle bench seat has a plug in the bottom so you can use it as a livewell, the helm seat is mounted on a track, it slides to the center for fishing, a fairly new trolling motor, new battery, .....and best of all, it was cheep.

It does have an issue, which contributed to the cheepness, the owner says that it kicks out of forward gear at speed......could be a simple fix (cable out of adjustment) or it could need a new "clutch dog" and forward gear....a couple hundred bucks.

We will see.

You also might want to check the prop... I had a 35 hp engine a while back that would suddenly loose all forward thrust and overrev like it was kicking out of foward gear... Then I'd shift to N, then back to forward and start out again... as soon as it got some revs behind it it would kick out again...turned out to be the rubber prop hub was bad..it would hold in low torque situations, but as soon as the revs built up it would spin internally. You cannot see it by just looking at the rubber hub since it's pressed in, but if that prop is as old as the engine there's a good possibility that the rubber is dry rotted just enough to loose some of it's adheasion to the inside and outside walls of the prop, allowing the inside to spin under load. Point is before you pull the motor apart, might be worth your while to just try a different prop.. could be something as simple as that.

The other home run would be what happened to my 9.9 after I changed the water pump. It was the shift rod which has an adjustment to lengthen or shorten it by turning the in line nut on it. You had to adjust it to do the work and I did not have it set right when I put it back on. Had to play with it to find the right adjustment and then voila!

Well, I pulled the prop.....it doesnt have a rubber hub, its the old style with a shear pin. The shear pin was sheared.....with any luck, it didn't shear because of the gears popping out, (maybe it just finally gave out after 39 years) but I cant test it til next week......shear pins are 2 for $3 by the way.

I gave her a good scrubbing and patched the gouges on the bottom. It really cleaned up well. Looking forward to next Wednesday!
