Default Why you strap the transom down on the trailer

I took this pic with my phone Sunday coming home from the inlaws after Christmas, so the quality is pretty poor. The winds were howling pretty bad with about a 20-25 MPH steady wind with 30 mPH or so gusts coming at us directly from the side. He came over an overpass where the wind got under his boat and off the trailer it went into the median of I-75.

Ya gotta feel sorry for the poor bastard, but you're 100% right...if he had it strapped down his boat would still be on his trailer. Great object lesson for all of us. Thanks Ferm.

Yep! Somebody learned a hard lesson. I NEVER unstrap mine until I get to the ramp and NEVER cut the winch cable loose till its in the water. I watched two guys undo all straps and bowline and when they started it down the ramp off it came and slid down the concrete. OUCH!! It tore up the outdrive and gouged the bottom pretty bad! It was UGLY!!

When I was a kid my dad and some friends went out fish gigging all night. On the way home we were all tired and the transom didn't get strapped down, and needless to say going down the road our brand new 16 foot tunnel hull jon boat came flying off the trailer. Ever since I double check it.

Ferm, is fish gigging like frog gigging? With a trident spear and etc? Never heard the term, but I've seen frog gigging and know what that's like. Thanks

Sort of like. Down here we used to be able to gig most any fish, but now with game fish and such there isn't alot that we can gig(mullet, sheepshead, flounder, and crabs is just about all that's left).
