Well, I looked around the interior of the new boat (86 V20) and the rod boxes look pretty shot. I can probably fix them with some fiberglass etc...Budget can't take a hit for the rod boxes so.....Have any of you tried to fix the boxes with success? I also noticed that the liner around the boxes is VERY flimsy to the point the glass cracked on one side almost up to the top of the gunnel. Any ideas how to reinforce that?

Mine were pretty bad. The flanges were cracked etc. Pulled then out and added glass tape to the backside. Filled the voids with resin and put them back. They don't look like new but they will do.

I also had to back my box flanges with glass tape, but I then added a strip of wood to the back side of the gunnell cap. This strengthened the hole that the inserts fit in and reduced the flexing. Did that 5 years ago and so far no problem.

If you ever need to replace them try SSI in Maryland.

Hey Parrot6909 glad to hear the boat is in good shape. Someday I'll get one and see you on the water. All the best Bar Hopper!
