Removing or rotating this fuel tank fitting

I'm rerouting my fuel line (I'll explain why in a separate thread later) and am wondering if the brass fitting on top of my fuel tank can be removed or rotated about 180 degrees. The fitting is the square one on the right side of the photo below. Thanks in advance for your advice. I don't want to screw something up that will cause me to have to remove the gas tank.

Sure you can rotate it its threaded on , Please be sure to turn it in a counter clockwise turn NOT clockwise you will strip the treads.

if your afraid it will not rotate, you could plumb a couple of 90's and a nipple w coupler to go the other way. it should rotate though....
shoot some pb blaster on it a let it set for a while.

It will come out. I pulled mine out several months ago.

Why are you pulling it out? It is just a straight aluminum tube to the bottom of the tank. Like phatdaddy said just put some fittings on it.

That fitting will just unscrew..If i were you i would take it all the way out and clean the end of the pickup tube..put some thred sealer on and screew it back in

That's a good idea!
While you are in there take the time to pull all the way out and and do a close inspection of the pickup tube for any signs of cracks or wear, and then clean the intake, it will let you have just a little more peace of mind..

I pulled the "L" brass fitting out of my tank sometime ago. After noticing my motor was fuel starving at high rpm, did troubleshooting, found the motor filter/separator empty after a high rpm run, and started troubleshooting some more and found ( using a clear rubber hose in ) that the fuel was picking up air bubbles from the tank. After pulling the L fitting with the long aluminum pick up tube, found that the alum tube had corroded at the threads, and had a pin point hole exactly where the tube joints the L fitting ( I guess due to galvanic corrossion because the L is brass and the tube alum ). Ended up cutting the tube 1/2" at the thread side and rethreading the tube. Problem solved.
Thread is NPT type on mine. Tube is 1/4" NPT, L is 1/2" NPT. Normal CCW thread to remove.

I appreciate the advice. I couldn't get it to budge and didn't want to break anything, so I came up with another plan. I'll use the same fitting and some hose barb elbows to change the course of the hose. Brass 90s wouldn't work because the fitting is so close to the tank that you couldn't thread it in. I'll let you know how it turns out.
