Last summer I saw a blow boat with a midsized (75-90hp, not sure cause it went by so fast) outboard motor on the back, it was up on plane tearing down the ICW. That was cool.

that was probably a MacGregor 26 Randal, they are built to house a sizeable outboard in a well in back and use as a power boat or sail, they are not the best sailing boat but do OK. If you think about it what that guy did Skools is not a bad idea, he took a sea worthy displacement hull and converted it to a mini trawler. well cruise and fish all day for pennies and probably cost him very little. Probably will do 18 to 20 knots no problem. If he had converted a bigger one with diesel would have been even better. Anyhow I got to tell you, sailing, while much different than power boating is sweet, once out of the harbour and you set your sails and cut the engine you are part of the ocean and the elements and it is extremely enjoyable. I would love to have a 35-40 footer. The only thing I think I would want more but can't find one I can afford is a 35-40 trawler with a Perkins or similar diesel. Yea I know you cruise at 8 knots, but you burn 3-5 gallons an hour can go anywhere in the world and live on them very comfortable. I would love to have that here and I would fish off it and stay on it for weekends etc. The two I have been aboard on, one a Marine Trader the other a Grand Banks were absolutely beautiful for a couple with a family or two couples spending a week. If anyone see's a decent one for a good price let me know.

I'm with you Willy, I think a trawler would be a neat way to go.......ofcourse the ones I like are $350K instead of 35.

I know, they are my ultimate dream boat, one fellow here has an Island Gypsy, it is beautiful, top speed ten knots cruise at 7. Uses 3 gallons an hour on cruise. The guy fishes all over the place with it, takes his family out for weekends, sleeps six comfortable and has a three foot draft. I would put mine on a mooring forget about the slips and have a full bar and a stripper pole. And extra hammocks for when the V20 compadres show up. They will be able to tie right off to me and we would run and gun and return to the mother ship in time for a good meal and sundowners. Thats the plan anyhow.

My boss has a 40 foot catamaran and it is awesome! Such a smooth ride! They go out of Mystic, CT and sail around to Montauk, Block Island, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard etc for weekends and vacations.
