Thumbs up Hammer, willy, Randle....check this out

I completely agree with the cop in this video. I would not let any young punk call me "dude" if I were a police officer.

let me know what you think

I am at work and can't see it, but I am assuming it is the Baltimore cop who lost it with the skater dudes.

I hate it when stuff like that happens, the cop lost his cool and will probably lose his carreer over it.

As a cop, I have to deal with people every day who disrespect me, try to get me to lose my cool, want me to overreact so the can"get paid". I have been fortunate so far that I can separate "me" from attacks on the uniform or "authority".

Incidents like this also give fuel to all the anti-police types who don't care that the cop has done right and good for 15 or 20 years. They just want to tear down whoever they can for whatever money they can make.

Of course that cop may be a real A-Hole who shoudn't be on the job, I don't know him so I can't say.

In the end, you can't go putting hands on folks unless you are arresting them. And you can't throw someone to the ground for calling you "dude".

Randleman, i wish you could tell that to the Pensacola Police Department. I've found that the state and county levels of law enforcement are easier to deal with here. They don't get two inches from your face demanding you to tell the truth (i was) or they'll throw your *** in the car and take you to jail.

first Cy let me say that i dont second guess any cop, but from what i saw there, no violence, no previous contact with this kid, so no history of problems. what do you have, a kid skate boarding where he is not supposed to.
From what i saw there you have kid who is speaking cool, trying to be cool in a situation with a cop, in front of his buddies.
You can confront that kid about any percieved disrespect right up in his face without yelling at the top of your lungs and implying his parents are not doing a good job and that he will someday get killed for calling someone a dude and that the cop feels he can kick his teeth in or put a boot up his *** like his parents should be doing.
Cops should escalate only when they are confronted with a suspect that is not responding to the least aggressive action needed.
If I was the supervisor of that officer I would have pulled him aside and had a talk with him. If it had been my son and he was treated like that then I would be confronting first my son and setting him straight and having him apologize to the officer and then I would be speaking with that officers supervisor.
That kid will never trust a cop, even if he should again. His opinion of cops will be affected the rest of his life. Do you think that kid will ever forget that confrontation, and not in a positive way knowing that he did something really wrong and that he deserved being humiliated and threatened.
Nah Cy, I along with many officers I know would have handled that firmly but without losing our cool and would have had a much better result.
Just my opinion.

i tried deleting it but Randleman quoted it before i could. i didn't mean to step on anybodys toes and shouldn't have posted that. i apoligize to anyone i offended. One bad experience with a cop puts a bad impression on them in my view.

Law enforcement officers have an incredibly tough job and they all deserve our respect and admiration. From what you can see on this video, however, this guy was out of control. This was not a dangerous situation, and this officer could have taught these kids how to have respect for authority, but what he did probably makes those kids think all cops suck.

i agree with you willy, and nipper, and RB. I guess I am just tired of all these punk kids these days who have no respect for anything. if that were me when i was a kid, my dad would have kicked my *** up and down the street. my wife is a teacher and i constantly hear about how some kid has called her a "bi#c#, and every other name in the book. kids these days just are not raised how they should be.

You are right about that with a lot of kids, but I will tell you this, when I was growing up I had the same kind of parents like you, but when I was in Jr. High and High school friends of ours, brotheres and fathers of friends were going off to die on a regular basis in a foreign jungle, there was never before or since a generation who confronted authority like the people within a few years of me growing up. Students were rioting, holding sit ins things were just crazy.
But I believe as we got older we came to realize that a lot of what was happening we were wrong about, especially old hippies like me and Franco (not Ozzie he was WWII era).
Most young people as they get older and get some life experience change their opinions quite a bit, its life, its growing up. Unless you are a flaming liberal then you never quite get rid of the rose colored glasses.
The point I am making it is life experiences that shape you, just like what happened to Jason in his comments above. Yet I am sure Jason has also witnessed himself or at least heard of amazing things cops do everyday to help others, but that one circumstance gave him an initial response to this thread that was very negative.
That is why that officer in the video was so wrong, because he affected at least three young men for the rest of their lives.
