Fuel Filters
Hi Guys,Is there anyone outhere using an inline six with carb?If so I need a complete filtration sytem,primary and secondary could anybody reccomend something.I need housing and filter for the primary and an inline for secondary[that I think I can get easy enough]West Marine mayby?.....Regards Brian......

Most anybodys should be good for that purpose.
At one time there was some discussion about the filters waterlogging with oil and causing the engines to run lean, I believe that was straightened out by increasing the micron size slightly. I don't believe there is one set filter set that is preferred. Some guys here used Walmart, Merc, I have NAPA with Merc reference numbers. A water seperator-filter (one with a drain tub would be nice) mounted, that looks a lot like an oil filter should do the job.

I use to run a inline 6 and I used one like shown above, no 2nd filter.
If money is not a option, then a Racor is the bet and they come 10 micron and have the clear bowl on the bottom o drain the water from. Thats what I have now. A few of us got them from a guy on ebay for a good price, but I think they are a bit small for your inline? Really I think its a tad small for my O/B also?? We will see. I will look there in a min. But what do you have for a boat?? I guessing a Cuddy? any were in the back of the boat before the line goes out the transom.
The filter I just showed you on ebay is Rated for 30 GPH , I will be trying it on my 225 hp Evinrude I never plan on 30 gal a hour!! and if I do I am getting rid of it!! LOL The guy is selling them for $29 but he is also taking offers, I heard he will take $17 for them?? Worth a shot, cause you are not going to get better for less!! if you use the Racor, make sure it has the metal bowl for use on an I/O. The clear bowls are for outboard use only. You should have a secondary mounted on the fuel pump(looks like half an egg mounted on the pump), look at the fuel pump on the side of the block. there should be a band that goes over the top with a screw right in the middle, usually safety wired in place, cut the wire, back the screw off, push down on the band till you can free it from the housing, then remove it from the pump, teh filter is made of a ceramic material, they should be availble from mercruiser or several aftermarket companies

I always thought the difference between the metal bowl and the plastic bowl was where it would be mounted. I didn't think they allowed plastic bowls to be mounted in the bilge or other enclosed areas.
