Default In need of some advice

Well fellers I have found a boat I am in love with, but I think he's wanting to much money for it. What would you guys say is a fair price for this one? I know MJ will like it as much as I do. I went and looked at it 3 weeks ago and found that the fuel tank was already replaced with an aluminum tank(he thinks it is 120 gallons, couldn't read the tag with the hatch on), the removeable decking over the tank is ROTTEN! and in desperate need of repairs, the stringers that I could get to all looked solid as a rock and didn't budge with my big friggin hands bangin on them.

The engine in it looks origanal, but has been out before as well as the outdrive. It hasn't been run since 11-06, so who knows what the condition of it actually is. The trailer is not a good thing either, it appears useable but will need replaced soon. The 1 thing that is holding me up is the transom. I got my 275 pounds on the outdrive extended and jump on it, no flex. The thing getting me is that underneath the gimbal, the fiberglass looks like it is pushed inward some by the drain plug. I couldn't get any flex out of the hull, and the deck for the most part is solid.

I have my 315HP MERCRUISER, and a BRAVO 1 set-up in the garage for a repower if needs be. But $4K for this one seems steep. What do you guys think? I found a 72 for $2K a little further away if needs be, but like the 73-83 style better. I don't need another boat, but like SKOOLS I can't pass up a classic.

When I talked to him he said he was going back to PENNSYLVANIA APRIL 1st, and he wanted it gone by then. But he doesn't really seem to want to budge on the price. I'm personally thinking $2K or $2500 would be good money for it considering the power and trailer, but I'm really on the ropes with this one. I let one slip away in JANUARY that I should have jumped on, but you guys know the old saying"Ye who hesitates maturbates".

I know he said he bought it 10-06, had a tune-up done in 11-06, put it in a lake 1 time and parked it in 11-06. I'm thinking his $2000 opening bid is about right for a reasoneable offer. He was also fairly misleading in his description about it conveniently disclosing how long it has been since it ran. The boat looked in overall good shape.

What do you guys think about the transom where it goes inward under the gimbal? I haven't had much experience with I/O transoms. I just know I have the worst luck with finding boats with bad transoms.

Well you are right I like them boats!! and if I could have found a solid one I would have it today!

Boat looks good!! as for the transom, my V was pushed in a little and it was nothing more then compression from the gimble housing, when I did the conversion I drilled it and it was dark wood but solid.

$4000 is high, and I would try to get lower, but it all comes down to how bad you want it!! You know already how hard they are to find, and you have the power already so its just your time re powering and whats that worth to you? I find I may spend a lot of time on stuff fixing but not cash, and I work cheap.

But he did just pass on $3100 on ebay?? Maybe he will be different when he has to move and its got to go??

Its a tough decision!! I know I have been there and done that!! I payed $4K for the Sea Ox and I added another motor to it also!! But I love the hull and when its done she will be great! New hard top be here 3 weeks!

Good Luck Pal!

It currently has an 888 that is not in the best of shape. It is splitting in the propshaft support area from corrosion around the internal retaining nut. So it isn't going to bring much to start with, let alone there is a guy on craigslist that has dropped his down to $200 and still can't sell it. The $3100 bid was a deadbeat bidder that was a newbie and is now no longer a registered user with a -3 feedback. I don't think the bidding would have passed $2K if his description was accurate. I'll give him a call tommorrow and try haggling with him some.

And you should have seen the boat he was quoting me that he seen for $45K. It was a complete restore with EMRON paint, bracket and twin 225 OPTI's under factory warranty with an aluminum trailer to boot ready to go.
