Default Low voltage!

Ive gotta 470 in my vee,and been having trouble starting it when it gets hot. I could let it cool for a few minutes and it would crank on up. I checked the volts at the coil and only had 5.55 volts cold. I couldnt find the resistor wire must be on the backside of the motor. i got out there yesterday and ran a new wire from the ignition wire, which had 12 volts, to the coil. Now I got 12 volts to the coil and with the pertronics ignition it runs alot better. Ill try her out this week to see if it cured my problem. Thanks CY and Spareparts for the advice,I never thought to check that.

while your at it, check the resistance to your coil, i Forget what the spec is, it comes in the pertronix literature, but it could save you a pertronix ignitor. If the resistance is too low, it will fry the ignitor

Well i checked the ohms on the coil and only had1.5,Im supposed to have3.0 ohms of resistance for the Pertronics ignitor. I called the pertronics corp, the tech told me I needed 12 volts and 3.0 ohms for the unit. So i ordered a new 40,000 volt Flame Thrower coil to match the ignitor. Its got the resistor built in,so all I have to do is run a switched 12 volt wire to it and Ill be set on go! Ill let you guys know how it goes.

Well, I got my new Pertronics 40,000 volt Flame Thrower coil yesterday and installed it. I reset the timing and it really runs good. I hope it has solved my problem . Ill find out this week .
