Default gelcoat tinting advice

G'day mates, :)

I need to fill in some holes on my console and was wondering if someone can give advice on tinting gelcoat. The current color is very light tan-ish/yellow-ish. At WestMarine they have brown and yellow coloring agent, so I'm hoping to just buy the one that I need. Any other advice on gelcoating is welcome too.

Thanks,

Rey

You'll probably need both but I'd start with the brown first. Do a test sample first and use the tint sparingly and I mean sparingly. Gelcoat the size of your small finger nail and just a small amount on the tip of a tooth pik. If you need more tint use the same amount til you get close then you'll know if you need the yellow. I used white gelcoat and tinted it with brown (very small amount) and it matched almost perfectly. Like BillyMac said , it only takes a speck to change the color.

I have heard that too where it just takes a little bit to change the color. The gelcoat I had in mind is a paste and it is a neutral (??) color. I didn't see any gelcoat that was white, but I'll have to look again.

THanks,

Rey

I tried and tried to match the color without success . . . I finally ended up buying matching color from minicraft.com . . . spectrum sells matching color too. Minicraft was right on with the match . . . you can search my old post for the colors . . . I can't remember which the were . . . I think it was phantom grey for the floor and some other color (not obvious) for the hull.

Found this on another forum.

https://www.minicraft.com/retail/wellcraft.htm

Looks like they go back to 1985.
What are the aerosol spray gel coats used for?.
Would the smoke white/alden be the hull color for my 86?.

Looks like you can also e mail them with your hull id and they will figure out what color to use(at the top).
Anyone ever use them?.
