| Canvas and a few othe Questions

Hello, Wow, I finally found a web site for my boat. I have a 1989 V20 that I've owned since new. I have beat that hell out of this boat and want to get it back in shape. I originally had a 225 Yamaha on it, but then repowered it with a 200 Yamaha in 1999. It is so much slower now, has anyone used a jacking plate with any success? Is there anywhere I can buy a ready to go replacement canvas for the original hardware or am I better off having a custom top made? The steering has always given me problems, has anyone converted to hydraulic, is it expensive to do so? I am also looking to get a new trailer for it, any suggestions? Thanks, Broc |

welcome JJ!! A lot ofguys are trying the no feed back steering and like it!! Cost is much less then power and less maintance! Jack plate?? If it was installed right and you trim it right I see no reason for one?? What are you seeing for speed? I have a Yamaha 175 and I do like 40 mph! With a 200 I would say you go about 45 at least! This hull was never made to do this kind of speed IMO any way so you should be fine. As for covers I think coustom will be the way to go?? I have never had one on mine so let some one else jump in on that. Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply. As for trying to get more speed, I am just so use to going 55+ with the old 225hp ( I just learned that they nicknamed it the "cheater" motor because it was really pushing about 235hp). I think one of the major problems is that I am using the stainless prop off the 225hp and may need to get the pitch and/or cup tweaked for better performance. Where would I look into that steering you mentioned, how many different companies offer it and whose is the best? Is it a big task to change all the wiring on this hull, mine is all shot? Thanks again JJBroc |

The steering can be had by all the big Co. very easy!! WestMarine, Boater World, Overtons, ect. clink the link below to read all about it! http://www.wellcraftv20.com/cgi-bin/...num=1058546073 Changing the wireing is a task in any boat!! But cuddys are easier IMO as you don't have to run all the wires thur the tube in the floor!!. I did my boat myself last year and if you just take your time you will be OK.

Thanks Macojoe, You seem to know alot about the boat, do you know if anyone has put a bracket off the back of an outboard hull, I see that a few have converted IO's in this manner. I am trying to get an idea of what direction to head in so I can do this all at once for the season. I believe I can pick up more speed by using a bracket, but don't know if I will end up with water problems by placing the weight that far back. JJBroc |

JJ, welcome. On the canvas, I would think that even if you could go to the original mfg, it's going to cost about the same as custom, IMO. Also just my opinion, but I don't think I'd go through all the work involved in changing to a bracketed outboard with an original outboard motorwell design. If you really are determined to get that much more speed out of the boat, I might be inclined to try re-propping the motor and maybe even trying the jackplate to raise the motor a little.

I agree with CB if you have a outboard set up leave it that way.

Well, you guys most likely know more then I do when it comes to the hull design, so I will take your advice on that and stay away from the bracket. Thanks |

you can change it buy going to your *profile. We like for people to put there location and what they have for a boat but you can put any thing you like. Go to were it says Personal Text and type what you want
