Fair price for an 88 v20

Just stumbled across this site and it looks like a great source of information.

Anyway I'm looking at an 88 v20 cuddy with an 88 Yamaha 150 and was wondering what you would consider to be a fair price.

The boat has been sitting on a mooring in summers and shrinkwrapped winters with almost no use for the past 10 years or so. The hull is in very good condition with some minor cracking of the gel coat around the rub rails it also has a small stress crack in the deck that extends about 6-8 inches starting from the front corner of the fishbox other than that its in great shape. The seats are original and what you'd expect after being exposed to the elements(not really a concern for me as I'd be pulling them out anyway).

The engine probably has under 100 hrs and has been professionaly maintained. I have not had a chance to do a compression check yet but I believe it will check out OK.

It doesn't come with a trailer, fishfinder, or gps.

So what do you guys think its worth?

Welcome to the site surfdude.
Fair pricing is often subject to regional areas of the country. The same boat here in the Northeast will generally bring a higher price than say, Florida. And even that can be subjective to the area of the given state.
That being said, if everything were to check out okay with the boat, an average price would probably be in the area of about $6500.00
Spider cracking generally is more esthetic than structural, so they're usually a non-issue. Stress cracks can also be a nonissue depending on where and how big they appear. Your main concern should be with the structural issues of the transom, deck and stringers.
Boats that sit on moorings all the time can develop problems in these areas due to water intrusion. Have them checked thoroughly.
For a motor of that age, I would only believe that it had 100 hours or less only with solid documentation. Most people will put 50 - 75 hours with little use during one season.
Without going into every little detail of problems to look for and so forth, read through a lot of the older topics or try the search function. This question comes up quite often. The V20's are solid built boats and do not typically have certain problems only associated with the particular model. Much of the problems you'll find are due to previous owner neglect.
Check it out good. If it works out for you, you'll be one happy boater, then we'll get into more specifics.

SD...post some pics if you can...sounds like a nice V20, but a few pics would help...if that compression test shows a tight motor, I agree w/CB...if real clean, maybe a little more...

Hope she turns out to be a good one and we see it on the board... ;) :)...

Thanks for the replies, the estimate on the engine hours was mine not the owners, most years the boat has never left the mooring other than the five minute ride from the ramp to the mooring when it was put in in the spring and pulled in the fall.

I took it out for a test drive today. Ran it out around Monomoy and then for a quick trip out to the Crab Ledge, not a lot of swell but it sure handled what there was, smooth and dry.

The transom checked out good and the deck seemed solid except for the area on either side of the fuel tank which just seemed to be kind of hollow sounding. The hollow sounding areas were very symetrical side to side so I'm thinking this has more to do with stringer layout than an actual problem. Any experience with this? I'm gonna check out another v20 moored nearby to see if it sounds the same.

I'm going to do the compression test towards the end of the week and will try to get a few pictures to post also.

Yep, I'm down in the Chatham area. Owner of the boat is from off cape, but i'm planning on meeting with him this weekend to see if we can come up with a price. Went looking at trailers this afternoon and looks like one will run around $2100 or so. Havn't seen any used ones in the area.

Welcome to the site Surfdude, I am in Yarmouth.

There are alot of these boats in the Stage Harborer area.

And the cover on the gas tank in the floor have been a problem with some of these boats.
If you get it you will have to unbolt the cover and take it off. Then strip the underside and add new wood to it. It will be as good as new!!
