Default Live Well Question Also

Just read the post on round live well. I have an 84 V-20 Cuddy with a rectangular well in the center just aft of the Captain Seats. I have been using it as additional storage for lines, anchors, etc. There is a pump in the bottom beside the drain hole. Do any of you guys have the same setup, and if so, how do you use it as a live well... where is the water source, or do you simply fill it with water by bucket and use the pump to change it? Any info would be a help.

Thanks,
Ken Clelland

I have a 1990 V20. My live well is located in the floor between the seats. There is no pump for bringing water in or out. I use a bucket to fill and drain to the bilge. I too would like to hear of the other set ups. Bill Mc ;D

Well I use to have a 1/2 barrel home made one, but it was to big and It was in the way all the time.

Then here in Mass, we now have a 3 year close to all Herring!! So no more live lining them.

Now I fish live Scup, I made a nice small 20 gal live well, it goes in the old engine well under the I/O cover. Its there when ever I need it and not in the way at all when I no use it.

Dark out now, but I will take a pic tomorrow and post.

Nothing special, home made. but it will keep a dozen Scup alive for a long time! and when they are gone or dead I can just go 1/2 mile and get some fresh ones to put in the tank!

Works for me ;D

lead head, got the same set up on my 83. I used it for storage or a fish box when we actually catch fish. The pump is for pumping all of the slime water out. I took an old styrafoam cooler about 1 " thick and cut it up and siliconed the pieces to the inside and it holds ice real well. Just don't put any foam on the bottom.

Lead Head, I keep an extra pump w/ about 6' hose on it in the boat for pump-outs...that way, I can get it goin' and go on down the lake, but I'll tell ya, most of the time I do use a bucket...easier and quicker than pump...the pump in your well...is there a hose?...where does hose go?...

You can get as fancy plumbin' a bait-well as you wanna...I'd keep it simple and only aerate/circulate as needed by the particular bait you need to keep alive... ;)...
