Been concentrating on crabbing the last 4-5 weeks, mainly due to weather and there are a lot of crabs this year. I decided to try surf fishing on Sunday. Pompano should be running back down south this time of year. Have not heard any reports, but thought I'd give it a try.
Caught some whiting, but no hot bite for a couple hours. Middle rod goes off, and this guy was on the other end. this is a big pompano. been fishing for them 25 yers and this is one of the biggest i've caught. ![]() ![]() 16.75 inches |

Thanks guys. Ate half of it last night, froze the other half. Normally i don t freeze a lot of fish, i was wasting most of it. I vacuum bagged it and will try to eat it in the next 2-3 weeks.
Ended up cooking it on the grill in parchment paper, kinda like New Orleans style Pompano Papillote. Turned out great!!
