I was not paying attention and reversed the polarity on my battery! Though I am not trying to start it, I was just trying to lift it up. It was connected for about 20 seconds before I realized it was backwards. It is a
89 Yamaha 150 pro. Did I actually blow my ignition module or something else? |

Do everything spareparts says saying that here is my opinion.
So you put 5he neg a nd positive on the wrong terminals. If you didn’t try to start it I would try to start it after you put the positive to positive and negative to negative. Maybe you lucked out. As long as you didn’t try to start it. I don’t know if I’m right or wrong but 5hats what I would do. But spareparts is the man. He knows .

Yep check fuses. Any magic smoke come out? Smell anything bad? Hope its ok. Get it running and make sure everything works. Lights too. Easier to fix now instead of in the water.

The motors electronics are not connected. I had the battery connected to the motors battery terminals only. I was trying to lower the motor. Now it wont lower or raise at all. Cars or boats dozens and dozens of times I have never connected the terminals backwards in my life!
This batteries terminals are very poorly marked and I saw a minus sign just under one of the terminals so I connected it but that was not a minus sign but sure looks like one! My wife says I need to go out and spray paint the terminals so that I cant mistake the connections! Getting old sucks!! Thanks for all your replies.... |

...of course it makes total sense that Yamaha would place a fuse in front of all else just in case somebody (me) reversed the polarity when connecting the battery! I traced the wires from the up/down switch on the side of my motor and I found the fuse. Went over to Autozone and replaced my fuse, and now my switch is working as normal! Thanks all for your help, much appreciated.switch wiring 1.jpg
