Talking E-Tec or Optimax. Repower HELP!!!

Hello All!!
I am going to repower my V21. Currently it has a 1993 Yamaha 150 on it and the swivel pin is rusted to a point that it is not safe to operate it. I found 2 motors that I like. The first is a 2007 E-tec 150hp with 1245 hours and is listed for $5999 and the other option is a 2008 Mercury Optimax 175hp with 392 hours and listed for $5999. I have a few friends with e-tecs and they love them but the hours are the mercury are so low but I do not know much about the optimax. Any feedback is appreciated

if you go Etec, make sure you have an experianced tech at a dealership nearby. We have very few of them around here, I personally don't have a high opinion of them, but admitting I see very few(like 1 or 2 to every 1000 Yamahas), its hard to base it on personal experience. None of the dealers around here will work on them. You will need someone experienced with them, not just been to school on them, but has been working on them for a while experience. I'm a big Merc fan, but I will tell you, optis are finicky. And if it ever has fuel system issues, break out the wallet. They do not tolerate bad fuel(goes the same with E-tecs/Fichts, HPDIs, or any DI engine). Fuel rail rework gets expensive. If it were me, i'd look around for a F150 Yamaha 4 stroke or 150 Mercury 4 stroke, then a Suzuki 150 4 stroke. Depending on your location(salt corrosion) Honda next

LOL Your biggest problem is that you live in NY. You're like me. They suck up all our money in the form of taxes. Get out of there and you'll have that money you're wishing for. I can't wait till my wife retires so we can bail from NJ for the same reason.

Check out glarson s in the for sale section. Got the whole package for what your looking at for just a motor.

I think that Johnson is a rebadged Suzuki, won t be the fastest one, but great fuel mileage.

I'm a Mercury two stroke guy and love it, I would not want a 4 stroke I would always look for a two stroke if there are any around. That's my personal opinion .
