Morning guys, I need your opinion on a real important matter. I moved my 84 year old dad into the (14 x25 ft, 7 ft 2 inch ceiling) den in his house it has one step up to the front door instead of the 12 total steps in the upper part oh his enormous split level home. It has a full bathroom on this level, only draw back is it happens to be the only part of the house that's on a slab. I am looking for a heater, electric I guess for when the piece of crap Navian tankless boiler goes on the fritz as it does every year! Theirs like one guy in 2 county's with enough knowledge to work on this thing and it sometimes takes days to get to us. So I need an electric heater to heat the space god forbid!!! I have read about many different units . if you guys have any recommendations it would be helpful ,Thanks

We have a couple of oil-filled electric heaters that look a lot like the old steam radiators. They work well and don’t get hot enough to set anything on fire. They’re radiant only, so they work best in an area with minimal draft.
I also have a small ceramic heater that will heat a small room which I use often in my large unheated shop - just place it near where I’m working. I think I it also is cool enough to not be a fire hazard and it has a safety switch that shuts it off if it tips over. In your situation, I’d google “electric space heater reviews” or something like that. You would probably find something that suits your situation and be able to find one at a good price at Amazon, Home Depot, etc. It sounds like you need something that will provid enough heat while being safe in two ways -it won’t start a fire, no matter what and won’t burn your dad, no matter what.

we also use the oil filled radiators. under a hundred bucks and they heat up pretty good. 14X25 is a pretty good sized room but if the heater is next to him it should do the job. we run ours all night and it gets our bedroom pretty toasty. it's kind of hard to keep anything toasty in this weather but they do nicely.
https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/sto...6_t-1514592103 we have one of these in each bedroom but the cheaper ones work well too.

X3 on the oil filled units. There are several different brands on the market. I have 2 from Sears and one from? (Peloris Brand) All 3 of them work great. I like the Sears units because they have a timer on them as well as a thermostat, so not only can I set them for what temp to turn on and off but also for how long to run after they turn on. I got them for my mom and they keep her toasty. Oh, and they also have a feature that turns them off automatically if they somehow get tipped over.
The ceramic heaters are great for spot heating, but I like the oil filled much more. They take a little while to heat up but once they get going they keep a room warm with ease.

Thanks Charlie, I am going to get the mr heater 968, but I'm also going to get an oil filled unit for upstairs. I think next summer I'm going to bite the bullet and change that piece of crap Navian unit back to a standard gas boiler and hot water heater, it will be cheap at the price not to live with the stress all winter . I should have done it last summer !!

Oh, I almost forgot. If you get an oil filled unit also buy (or use) a small fan behind it. Position it so the fan blows through the fins of the heater. Heats up the room faster and more evenly. The difference is just Radiation vs Convection. Convection wins every time. Circulate the air
