I have an 87 v20 steplift with a outboard 175 Johnson. Anytime I have the stern facing seas water comes inside and over the transom and drains out through the drain holes but it also leaks in through the bilge cover and into the bilge. The lid does have 4 screws to hold it in place. Don't know if that was the way it came from the factory. Anyone else having this problem and is there s fix?

Not sure what hatch you are talking about without a picture. There are different versions of V20s
Is it it in the motor well? Probably an add on from prvious owner. If it can be screwed down then it should be. Open access ports in a motorwell are the #1 reason for small boats to sink at a dock.

sounds like "bilge cover" is not sealed....3m 4200 or some other sealant as suggested should do it, right?

He might have one of those plastic hatches in the splash well. If so be careful, they can sink you. someone posted a vid a few years back of a guy spearfishing with a go pro and swims back to the boat to find it listing hard and going down. Last fra,e was the coast guard chopper.

Bradford has it right.?it is a cover in the splashwell. The cover may be large enough to seal it then put a waterproof hatch in/on top of it.
