will the engine start if you don't prime the bulb? Keep in mind, the primer bulb will not stay hard under normal use. When you pump up the bulb, you are pressurizing the system from the bulb, thru the line, to the fuel pump, then to the carb. When you run the engine, the fuel pump sucks from the line (pulling a vacuum on the bulb) and pressureizing from the fuel pump to the carb. You shouldnt expect the primer bulb to stay hard. If you have any doubt on the bulb, replace it with a new one, don't use afetrmarket, only Mercury, Bomb(OMC), or Yamaha(same as the other japanese bulbs). Aftermarket bulbs suck, Ive thrown many Moelers, Sieera, Attwood, etc in the trash over the years

Change the ball and the problem will go away. Probably a bad check valve. Check valve prevents fuel from running back into tank.

make sure the arrow is always pointed UP and at the motor, not laying flat or pointed down.

What those guys said. A primer bulb is good to change every year or two.

I'm gonna disagree... they do go bad BUT the primer bulb is only there to prime the engine... the bulb is not supposed to keep the engine primed, tho it can do so and mask another problem.... if you never unhook the fuel line from the engine or run it out of gas you should never need to prime it... Find out why you are losing prime... bad fuel pump, slight leak/ deterioration/ loose clamps in/ on fuel line allowing air to be pulled in, etc |
