Default Batteries in Center Console

Hey guys, been following the site for a bit while I searched for a 20. Finally picked up a 1990 20 Sport center console project. It needs a complete refit. My thought was to install two AGM batteries in the center console to move some weight forward and get the scuppers as high out of the water as possible. Wondering if anyone has done this and how it worked out. I would run 2 ga leads back to the motor and also install some rubber pads under the battery boxes as "shock absorbers". Thanks for any help.

Works fine... I have a hatch cut in the floor up front for my batts... Instead of a bubbler mat simply clamp em down solid... Getting loose and bouncing around is way worse than the pounding of the water.

Thanks. Do you have a livewell/seat in front of your console? Have any pictures of the hatch and set up? Thanks again.

It works good at moving weight forward, did it in my cuddy version and soon gonna be doing it on my Skiff.

I would run 1 gauge wire.

Welcome!

I do have a seat on the front of the console and I suppose it could have had a live well in it but it doesn't... There is a fish box in the front deck.
The hatch is just a generic tempress floor hatch.

You can just make out the hatch in this pic with all the junk sitting on it

EDIT: oh crap... No that's the fishbox... The hatch is between it and the console at floor level and not visible.

The hatch is like this one.
