Well, that little single axle trailer is badly overloaded with that boat--unsafe! So paying $1000 for boat and trailer would be taking a BIG risk. Even a decent used trailer for a Wellcraft V20 would cost $3000 with good tires and wheel bearings, no rust, decent jack, good winch, good hitch, etc. Then internals of the boat, steering, electrical, internal wood?

I would pass unless the engine were really good. I would hire a mercury mechanic to come out and start it and do a formal evaluation. He would check everything, cylinder pressures, generator output, trim pump, etc. etc. If it is good, it is worth $3k or so and probably worth the risk of paying $1k for the whole thing. But it might be a HUGE all-Summer project. OR, it could be the proverbial "diamond in the rough" and be the foundation of a $10k boat, motor, and trailer.

Lots of guys here trailer with a single axle. The V-20 with engine is in the 3000-3500 pound range, and you can get single axle trailers that can handle that kind of weight easily. I remember towing MUCH bigger boats on single axle trailers without issue. We had a 23 foot PROLINE cuddy cabin with a single axle trailer, and no problems towing(other than weight shifting because of the length and weight). Trailers must be REALLY expensive on the west coast because over here you can buy a brand new dual axle aluminum trailer for under $3000. Good used trailers are bringing $1500-2000 while new ones for a 20 footer are $2200-2700.

mine sits on a single axle and does just fine, i think ferms numbers might even be a little on the heavy side, unless youre loaded down with gear. That kicker motor brings at least 500 around here if it runs...

Check it out. A trailer manufacturer prices $5k+ for a dual axle trailer with bunkers fit to a V20 (or equivalently heavy boat). Today trailers are made of galvanized iron and will have the latest jack and winch. Even having an old one rebuilt will cost $2k+

That's worth driving to the east coast to buy one. I've got one I'll sell you for $1500.

Five grand for a trailer to hold a 20ft boat is about double the price.
