Rod boxs rebuild ?? Or buy new

I started working on the V20 today , and found the rod boxs to be cracked & missing some glass in places , has any one had any experience fixing them ? or do they make replacements that fit the cut outs? any help would be great Thanks guy's

I restored mine, but I would say buy new. Your boxes are true rectangles so it should be easy to find something slightly bigger to replace them. Cut the openings bigger to accomodate, and replace the trim.

You can avoid having to cut the gunnel openings and replace trim by restoring your old boxes. You can use some type of plastic weld behind the edges of the outer flanges. Then putty, sand, & spray paint the inside. Just a light sand and oil or finish for the teak.

Edit: Just saw how badly yours were broken in your pictures. Buy new, for sure. Or maybe you could build some out of 1/4 inch starboard.

use bondo to repair yours enough to make a mold from them and then make new glass boxes for yourself plus a set for me ;)

Well I couldn't find any box's that fit right or I liked , so it's time to get creative and build our own . My partner and I started last night, we decided to use white oak do to the price of teak wood. got them all framed up to size and are ready to glass the back sides for strength and weather protection. what you all think of this
