Generous...Welcome to the madness around here...I think you'll find everyone as helpful as can be...
1st thing I'd like to do is thank you for your service to this country and particularly your time in Vietnam...I've heard it said this country has nothing to apologize for..I disagree...we should apologize to all the Vietnam vets for the way WE as a nation treated returning vets from that unfortunate episode in American history...THANK YOU... ![]() From the profile pic it looks like you have found yourself a nice V20 to fish from...what horsepower your 4 stroker??...will be helpful to know in estimating your range...good news is new tank...bad news for anticipating as much as 40 miles offshore is that it's only 42 gals...did previous owner install?...original was 60 in an '84, so yer starting out w/an 18 gal loss...so be very weight-conscious when loading people and gear for fishing...and deciding on a hard top...lot of wind resistance there and weight...suggest you consider light as possible frame(but not flimsy) and canvas top instead of fiberglass... What your target fish from Aransas Pass?...do you ever go out of Galveston?...post up some more pics of your V when you can...we like boat porn around here!!...

Welcome to the site. It has been written that 84 was the best year for V20's. FWIW, it was written by another owner of an 84..... rkc

Hi everyone!
Thanks for the gracious welcome and thanks for comments on service. "Welcome Home" to my brother Vietnam Vet. My 4 stroke is 140 HP ... supposed to be very good on gas. Previous owner put in 42 gallon tank...... dunno why lol. Port Aransas is 2 hours drive south of Galveston. Water is nicer and "Blue Water" only 20 miles out. Plan to troll for Kings, sailfish, tuna, dorado etc. |

Welcome to the site GG!
I have the same boat/motor combo as you have, you will have plenty of range with 42 gallons of fuel, I have a 40 gallon tank and run for days and days on a tank. Using gps to track miles run and counting gallons burned, I get around 5 MPG (statute miles). Of course in rough seas you will get less, but even if it drops to 4 MPG, you still have 134 miles of range (42 gal x 4 mpg x 80% to give a 20% reserve). But I would expect that you will get the same performance as I am getting so you sould have a 168 mile range (42 x 5 x 80%). As for speed, I can get 40 mph with just me on board and 20 gal of gas running a 14x19 aluminum prop, 39 running a 14x21 aluminum prop. I like the 14x21 for most uses because it drops the rpms at cruise a bit, but I put on the 19p when I know I will be pulling water skiers to help get out of the hole. Weight really affects top speed, I once had 5 people on board and was pulling 8 kids on 2 tubes, I could only go 30 at WOT. I'm sure if I got the bottom of my hull slick that all performance would improve. Congrats on the new boat!
