Default Radar, I think I will keep it....

Went out fishing yesterday morning. The fog was intense. It appears that others were waiting for the fog to lift.

Although I didn't go "way out", I sure felt better having my old radar going. Besides it being another navigation tool besides the compass and gps, I didn't have the fear that a large tanker would appear from nowhere.

Otherwise a disappointing trip, although my dog still gets excited when I did catch some junk fish (dogfish and scupp).

Nice having peace of mind. eh?
Lots of guys starting to hook up on Tautog right now in Buzzards Bay. Stop by M&D's in Wareham for some green crabs and ask the owner Mike for some spots. Mike's a great guy and he'll help you with anything you want to know.

I've been thinking about getting radar for a long time... Truth is it's just too damn expensive for me to purchase at this time, especially since I don't get out all that often anymore. Still....... it would be nice. I'm jealous RKC.. Hope your next trip is more productive.

Damn right keep the radar...it's great and I'd like to have it...it'll show you the approaching tanker...but take it easy anyway, cuz there are things afloat out there the radar will never see...containers fall off ships all the time and float w/only inches showing above the water...we saw a barge full of scrap-metal adrift off Charleston the radar didn't pick up...the best electronics on the planet can't compensate for SIGHT...

Yeppers.... 100% correct. In the Navy we used to refer to sight as the "Mark I Eyeball". Nothing will ever take it's place.

Beside the galf the furno raidar is the best tool on the boat. Some friends not included. Nothing worse that having a boat full of gas and bait and no way to see through the fog And yes play extra safe in it. Better to see what your about to get your A$$ into. One of the big reasons I bought my V-21 it had all the electronic gear I needed to feel safe.

Question

Speaking of radar, what power radar do you need to see birds? I remember there was a discussion about this a while back, but don't remember the power needed.

Ok, found the thread. The answer is: You need 4 KW or better to spot buoys and birds. A 2kw unit normally will not show them.
