I notice alot of guys on here calling alot of different brackets on here "Seadrive bracket" the picture belowe is what i consider a true seadrive bracket. I have the one pictured with the 135 hp on it that i want to install on my v20 cc. what are the plus and minuses on this setup. Im reading alot of stuff about weight distribution and floation. thanks in advanced

From what i have read online, parts for the tilt trim are practically obsolete, so thats the biggest minus imo.

Yea thats what im reading now. I have owned this motor and seadrive for about 6 years i am only the second owner of the bracket and motor my buddies dad owned them before me and both have only seen freshwater and i plan introducing it to salt. I dont like the fact that the bracket carries the motor low in the water when coming off plane!!!!. Why did omc bail on the manufactoring of parts for this bracket?

That has been one of the major problem, parts available.
The idea was good but it opened another can of worms. Corrosion seems to have been the main issue with that setup. Besides the trim portion, the engine itself would regularly get swamped and sprayed. If cleaned as it should have been it would have been no issue. It's real hard to out thing the average consumer. A true bracket can swamp and spray the engine but usually not as bad as the Seadrive or at least not as often. Seadrives are not that bad to recon the weight distribution, brackets on the other hand need consideration for that much weight being pushed toward the rear.

Now, the reference between Seadrives and brackets should be considered two different animals.
OMC most likely dropped the design due to consumer problems associated with a salt environment (not cleaning the boat after use), not due to poor materials used.

so its highly recommended to stay away from this bracket? Thats fine because i can keep it on the boat its on now and get a little more money for the Regal when I sell it. Its not like im gaining any room if i made this V into a solid transom with a bracket. I will just keep it selfbailing.

It all boils down to "when" you need to fix the thing.
I have no problems using something up till that time arises then make a decision BUT I'm big on being able to replace stuff as needed and not having to worry about a mothball situation.
