Default Closed Up The Transom Top

Something I've been wanting to do for long time...remove the aluminum cap from the transom top and smooth it over...

Before...

Take a look at the two Clamshells just above the waterline here...the PO drilled these two holes thru the transom, ran several transducer lines thru them on both sides, left them open, no caulking or anything and put these clamshells over them like they would somehow keep water out...not too good...

Crammed a BUNCH of structural filler in and under the gap in the cap...and then came back over it w/surface filler...

After

And then went to sanding...got all the screw holes, transducer holes, etc while at it...

After paint, it'll look a little cleaner still...the HEAT finally broke down here and looks like things can move along now...

As you can see, plenty more to do...have the primer and paint ready for tomorrow and will paint transom only for now....gotta get it ready to hang motor soon and then will finish up remaining hull work...but the aluminum cap is in the Sptbg Co DUMP by now...

That is one Ugly Mother before. Great job closing the gap. You glassing it up or letting the paint do the sealing?

Primer and several coats of paint will have to do...she's a trailer Queen...will hardly ever spend more than a day (or night) on the water at a time...so hopefully won't be and issue...

Jason it's a 25"...they musta changed 'em up a might between years..

RKC...that swim platform is now in Ridge's good hands...it might wind up on my old 74 which he has at present...I put that 74 together in 1999 and been wantin' a rolled transom top since...seein' Pete's put me over THE TOP

Looks good. Are you going to put that swim platform with the single bracket back on?

and did you ever think those open clamshells were to let the water out?

Looks great. When i had my outboard off the other day i pulled my cap off. It wasn't as bad as yours, but it still wasn't pretty.

Is that a 25" transom? Is that factory, or is it something someone did? On my 83 V20 i can only see the top bolts for the outboard not all four.

They go straight thru the tranny just above the waterline...no plumbing inside...the entire bottom of the boat below the floor would have to be full, including the bilge for water to run out of these...in short...I don't think so...LOL...
