| Update on the 73 v Repairs

Just wanted to do an update on the V.. Filled well over 200 plus holes , repaired the major breaks , Rebuilt the console , Repaired the transom , Painted the top cap Don't give me to much s*** about changing the color just wanted it a little different. I think ones the stripe is on it will look ok. I don't think I have ever sanded or filled so many holes on a boat in my life. As of right now my wife knows I've lost my mind along was most of everyone on the street so I guess I'm on the right track.. Still building the seats... Any comments would be great..... |

Man that is looking good.....I wish I had the ambition to rip a boat down like that....Tell your wife and the neighbors you are doing it all for them so you can ride them around in a sweet looking boat... What color did you change? Is the top of the gunhwale a different color...hard to tell in the pics, (at least on my laptop)

Thanks RWilson. I just painted it a different color from the norm. Used sundown buff for the hull , blu glow white for the top cap and beige interdeck for the top bow and the gunhwale. I don't know about sweet but trying just to make it safe and look a little better. I must have looked on here at other project boat hundreds of time just to keep plugging away at it. I spent over two weeks after work and the weekends just filling holes and making glass repairs the transom was a ball game all in it self. Going to paint the beige pinstripe on the boat today and start working on the inside. All kidding aside the wife is more then understanding and always helps out when needed don't know why.She still just looks and shakes her head right along with me ....All the fun Will update again soon... |

| looks good

I know what you mean about the holes my 74 looks like it been in a gun fight on the inside. I guess if something had to be replaced there must be a law that says you have to drill new holes and not fill the old ones. But it looks like your making good progress with yours. Hay question? what kind of fiberglass resin are you using epoxey or polyester got to do some on mine just wondering what worked for you.

Thanks steplift20. Yea I really don't care to much about what other people think well within reason. I painted the boat with brightside Sunbuff down. Wanted to strip down and re gel-coat the whole boat but then reality sunk in. By all rights for what I wanted to do with and how I wanted the boat to look I should have started with a better looking boat or at least one that was not treated like a bumper-boat and test dummy. Trying to rebuild the V on a set budget so far so good. Have spent many hours sanding and buffing out the bow rails and rub rails for the most part they look like new again except for the few pitted areas on the rub rails but it beats the 1500.00 new ones. Working on the top cap this weekend installing all the new hardware and almost new....

Great work! How was it topside painting the hull with the bottom paint being on there? Did you use any primers to seal the gel? For the seats, have you looked at some of the new Wise chair packages? IMO, they are greatly priced and come with all new pedistals. Starting as low as $150 online! If you are looking to do a back to back seat on the port side, check out some that are already pre-fabbed. Wise, Todd and other seat names are a start! Wish you luck

Painting was fairly easy it's all the prep work to get their that takes the time. I did prime everything even in areas that they say you don't have to. The primer is more unforgiving then the paint just make sure you sand between coats. As far as the seats go I'm building them now wanted to have extra storage as well as drawers. The port side was thinking of building one kind of like a large lounge seat with full storage underneath that wraps around don't sure yet.Ones their built going to glass everything and paint. Thanks for luck going to need it...
